In Alabama, the Food Assistance Division is in charge of running the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The Food Assistance Program aims to reduce hunger and enhance nutrition by giving eligible low-income households monthly payments to assist them in purchasing the food they require for optimum health.
Regulations established by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service specify the eligibility requirements and benefit levels based on income and household size. Both as an employer and a provider, USDA values diversity. All county DHR offices have applications for the Food Assistance Program on hand.
