The Food Stamp Program (now known as SNAP) is a federal program managed by the Connecticut Department of Social Services (DSS) and administered by the US Department of Agriculture.

To be eligible for SNAP in Connecticut, you must be a U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen. U.S. citizens and certain legal immigrants with little or no income are likely to be eligible for SNAP. Also, unemployed people, retirees with no or low pension or Social Security income, those working but earning low wages, homeless people, etc., are eligible for SNAP.

Issuance Schedule for Connecticut EBT Snap

Benefits are made available from the 1st to the 3rd of every month, based on the first letter of the client’s last name:

  • First Letter of the Last Name is: A-F = benefits available on the 1st
  • First Letter of the Last Name is: G-N = benefits available on the 2nd
  • First Letter of the Last Name is: O-Z = benefits available on the 3rd

Will Connecticut SNAP benefits lapse over time?

Your SNAP Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) account will carry over any unused benefits into the following month. You will lose access to your SNAP benefits if you don’t use them at all for nine months, though.

How long does it take to receive SNAP approval in Connecticut?

For applications or assistance with an application, contact DSS at 1-855-626-6632. For more information, visit the State of Connecticut’s SNAP program website. You should receive a decision from DSS within 60 days if you provide the information required. If you are homeless or have a very low income, you should hear from the court within seven days.

Is it possible to use my CT SNAP card in another state?

Yes. You can use your SNAP card benefits regardless of where you are in the United States.
