The USDA and the State of Michigan’s DHS collaborated to create the Food Assistance Program (FAP) in Michigan with the goal of assisting low-income families, the elderly, and people with disabilities to purchase a sufficient amount of nourishing food.
All able-bodied SNAP participants in Michigan between the ages of 18 and 50 who are not supporting any dependents must meet special job requirements through unsubsidized, unpaid, or in-kind employment. If not, benefits can only be received for a maximum of three months every 36 months.

Issuance Schedule for Michigan EBT Snap
Benefits are made available from the 3rd to the 21st of every month, based on the last digit of the recipient’s ID #:
- Recipient ID # ends in: 0 = benefits available on the 3rd of the month
- Recipient ID # ends in: 1 = benefits available on the 5th of the month
- Recipient ID # ends in: 2 = benefits available on the 7th of the month
- Recipient ID # ends in: 3 = benefits available on the 9th of the month

In Michigan, how long does it take to get food stamps?
Thirty working days maximum after the office receives your application. If you don’t qualify for expedited treatment, MDHHS will decide whether to accept or reject your application within 30 days.
