New Jersey SNAP enables qualified low-income people and families to receive cash benefits for food expenses.
People are not entitled to SNAP benefits in New Jersey. According to NJ law, unless specifically exempted, all SNAP participants must work or participate in a job program for at least 20 hours per week.
All non-disabled SNAP users aged 18 to 50 who are single and unmarried are also subject to ABAWD time limits, which limit payments to 3 months over 36 months.

Issuance Schedule for New Jersey EBT Snap
Benefits are generally made available over the first five calendar days of the month, based on the 7th digit of the client’s case number:
- Case number ends in: 1 or 2 = benefits available on the 1st of the month
- Case number ends in: 3 or 4 = benefits available on the 2nd of the month
- Case number ends in: 5 or 6 = benefits available on the 3rd of the month
- Case number ends in: 7 or 8 = benefits available on the 4th of the month
- Case number ends in: 9 or 0 = benefits available on the 5th of the month
Exceptions: In Warren County, all benefits are made available on the 1st of the month.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use NJ EBT outside of New Jersey?
Yes. Through the use of your EBT card, your SNAP benefits can be accessed. You can use your NJ EBT anywhere that accepts EBT in the United States, including the District of Columbia, Guam, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
How much will I receive in N.J. in food stamps?
The minimum monthly SNAP benefit in New Jersey is $95. For instance, if New Jersey approves you for $23 in SNAP benefits, they will add a supplemental payment to make it $95.
How long does it take in New Jersey to receive SNAP benefits?
If qualified, you can access your SNAP benefits within 30 days after the office receives your application. In some urgent situations, you can receive your first benefits in just seven days.
